Although pesticides have been
linked to a number of health problems, we are nevertheless inundated with them
on a daily basis. They’re in our food, our garden, our air and even in our
homes. Researchers have now discovered that, in addition to the other health
problems pesticides pose, they can also increase our risk for diabetes and for
cancer.
Here are a few ways to help
eliminate pesticides through lifestyle and dietary changes.
1. Buy organic fruits, vegetables
and grains grown with natural pest control methods. If you’re lucky enough to
have your own garden, it’s well worth doing a little research into using plants
and insects to keep your garden pest-free. At the very least, if you don’t have
access to organic produce, make sure you wash your fruits and vegetables well
before eating.
2. Eat organic meat and dairy
whenever possible so you can avoid eating animal products from animals that
have been fed genetically altered grains and other substances grown with
chemicals.
3. Use natural pest control
methods in your home garden. You can purchase lady bugs from many gardening
supply stores to eliminate a number of pests from your garden.
4. Avoid using toxic bug sprays.
Some non-natural bug repellants use DEET (a pesticide that is harmful for your
skin and your health).
5. Use a shielding lotion. Shielding lotions are designed to strengthen your skin’s
own natural barrier, helping to protect your skin from irritation from toxins
and chemicals such as pesticides.
Eliminating pesticides from your life and
avoiding them as much as possible will help you lower your risk for developing
a number of health conditions.
